In acrylic painting, "lacing" (often associated with fluid art or paint pouring) refers to an organic, web like pattern where one color branches or "veins" through another. It gets its name from how the delicate, intertwining lines resemble lace fabric. Lacing occurs naturally during pouring or swiping techniques due to differences in paint density. When a thinner or heavier paint (like white) is layered or "swiped" over other fluid colors, it pushes down and sinks through the underlying paint. This movement displaces the colors below and causes them to rise to the surface in delicate, webbed lines.
